Man wearing chastity belt arrested for DWI

Some Tennessee Highway Patrol officers recently encountered an allegedly impaired driver who was unusually dressed. However, it wasn’t the red mesh hose or the skirt that the 35-year-old man was wearing when police stopped him for suspicion of driving under the influence that took them aback.

It wasn’t even the bow-tied ribbon in his goatee. It was the chastity belt requiring a key to unlock from around the man’s private parts that was particularly unexpected.

According to the local news media, the man admitted that he consumed as many as five shots of liquor in four hours. Officers noted that his eyes appeared to be watery and bloodshot and that he reeked of alcohol. Reportedly, his blood alcohol content was well above the legal limit of .08 at .117.

While the suspect was detained at the scene, police spied a firearm in the car’s center console. He was charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Once the suspect was in custody, he told them that he had to get a key to the device out of his car. The only other key to the chastity belt was around the neck of the also-inebriated (but not arrested) individual riding with the man. After Anderson County deputies facilitated his release from the locked device, he was transported to the Anderson County Jail. His next court appearance is set for July 12.

Not every DWI arrest will be that dramatic. However, all have the potential to be life-altering, especially if the accused has already racked up one or more DWI convictions. It’s always best to mount an aggressive defense while protecting one’s rights against self-incrimination.
